Our Community

We are located in the borough of Shickshinny, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, which is situated along the banks of the Susquehanna River and has fewer than 900 residents. We enjoy a close-knit community that offers a friendly and supportive atmosphere to residents and visitors alike.

Our History

The first families settled here in 1782. In the subsequent 10 years, families worked hard and invested their time, their money, and their hearts into growing Shickshinny into a borough, which finally happened in 1861, gaining its independence from the Salem and Union Townships.

Many businesses were launched over the next decade by industrious land owners and investors, creating a flour mill, a foundry, a planing mill, a couple of blacksmith shops, and even the first newspaper. Coal was discovered across the Susquehanna River in the Wyoming Valley and then on Rocky Mountain and Newport Mountain. By 1865, Shickshinny had the first toll bridge across the river; then a few years later, a turnpike along the creek.
