Health and Safety Plan 2023–2024

Welcome to the online home of Northwest Area School District. NASD is a small, rural district located in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, approximately 16 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The district has been in existence since 1955 when several smaller schools combined to form Northwest Area.

Today, Northwest Middle and High School is a comprehensive high school, serving approximately 500 students in grades 7–12. NASD Primary School, located in Huntington Mills, houses our PK–2 students, and our 3–6 graders are at the NASD Intermediate School in Hunlock Creek.

A Message from Our Superintendent

Dear Ranger Parents and Community:

As we kick off another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for each and every one of you. Our theme this year, "Education for All Students," speaks to our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child in our district has access to a high-quality education that meets their unique needs.

One of the greatest strengths of our district lies in our incredible community — the collaboration between our students, families, teachers, administrators, and local supporters. Together, we create a nurturing environment for our students, faculty, and staff, and I truly feel blessed to work alongside such dedicated individuals. It is through our collective efforts that we can effectively carry out the vision and mission of our district.

While we are excited about the opportunities ahead, we must also acknowledge the challenges that come with them. As many of you know, we are facing significant challenges due to a lack of state funding. This is where your support becomes crucial. We encourage you to join us in advocating for our district and demonstrating to our state legislature just how amazing our community is. Together, we can show them the incredible potential of our students and the importance of investing in their future.

As we embark on this new year, I am filled with hope and optimism. I genuinely believe that with the strength of our community by our side, we can navigate any challenge that comes our way. Should you encounter any issues or concerns during the year, please do not hesitate to reach out to your building administrator. Open lines of communication are essential for ensuring that we can resolve any situations effectively and support one another.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our students and for being an essential part of our educational journey. Let’s work together to make this school year a remarkable one!

Warm regards,

Mr. Long
