Welcome to the Home of the Rangers!

Welcome to the online home of Northwest Area School District. NASD is a small, rural district located in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, approximately 16 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The district has been in existence since 1955 when several smaller schools combined to form Northwest Area.

Today, Northwest Middle and High School is a comprehensive high school, serving approximately 500 students in grades 7–12. NASD Primary School, located in Huntington Mills, houses our PK–2 students, and our 3–6 graders are at the NASD Intermediate School in Hunlock Creek.

A Message from Our Superintendent

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Once again thank you for your patience and all you are doing at home with our students to keep them connected to our school. We will now be moving into a new phase of distance learning. Enhanced enrichment with new material will begin this coming week with our students. The expectation of this plan will be to expose our students to new material to help them grow and prepare for the next grade level. We will give seniors the opportunity to finish the material the instructor felt was necessary to complete the course work. The expectation is that each student will have 100% submission of these assignments. We will evaluate each assignment and will give appropriate feedback to the students. The plan also allows students to work at a convenient time for them. There will be no numerical or letter grade given for this work in the fourth quarter. We understand that in some cases help for the student could be at night and we appreciate your dedication in this matter. Education cannot just be about a grade it has to be about growth and readiness as well. This plan, if taken advantage of by the students, will meet those needs. Please work with your teacher and contact them or your building principal with any concerns.

The plan for each building is now on the web page of each individual school. The plan will show expectations and how and when to meet with your teacher. It also explains the different ways you can access this material. Obviously, you can access online through Google classroom. You can also download the work by coming to our high school parking lot and using the school’s internet to access Google classroom. We can also download work onto data drives and make arrangements to have them picked up or delivered to the student. In addition, we can distribute paper and pencil packets to students. We have attempted many times to reach out to all students to ascertain the manner in which they can access the material. Please contact the school to ensure that your child is getting what they need for school.

This plan has taken into consideration that not all students have access to the internet or the ability to access work electronically. This plan is the district's best attempt to educate all students equally. Once again, thank you for your continued support in this historic time in education. We still firmly believe that the best education a Northwest student can get is in front of our teacher’s daily! We miss you, stay safe, and follow the recommendations of the CDC, Governor, and President.
